Rocky Mountain Invitational Marching Band Competition 10-11-11

On October 11, 2011 the Marching Band and Color Guard competed at the Rocky Mountain Invitational Marching Band Competition held at LaVelle Edwards Stadium on the campus of Brigham Young University.  This is probably my favorite competition.  There is plenty of room for everyone.  The bands that choose to stay can all sit on the side of the stadium to enjoy the show.  There are GREAT seats all over, up high to see the designs the bands created on the field, down low for taking pictures.  (An added advantage is you never have to wait for a bathroom because there are plenty)

It is always fun to watch this opening, the girls do the same thing (I think) at different times, they each add their own uniqueness to it.

I like that the flag girls don't look rushed as they place their flags on the field.

I think I always hold my breath when they do a lift, hoping that it goes the way it should and that the girl being lifted does not get dropped.

I really like the way this move works and they create a line of girls.

A big smile comes onto my face now, because Rachael is out on the field.

My favorite part with the flags - the swing flags, this week I watched to see exactly when the purple comes out.

No one tell Tiffany that I took her picture.

I am always a proud Mom of Rachael, proud Mamma Blanco of all of the other girls at the end of a show.  I always want them to win, but know that losing will remind us of the importance of practice, practice, and more practice, to achieve the right move each and every time.  Once in a while we will not get first place in the competition, tonight was one of those nights, I was proud of the girls, they congratulated Davis High School on their win.

I was most proud of this girl tonight.  As the show progressed it was time to pick up a new flag, as she got to where hers was supposed to be it was not there.  She remembered exactly what to do, and did it.   She walked to where she would pick up her next flag, and waited until the time to join back in with the rest of the group.

Thanks to Richard Patterson for sharing his photos with me.
