Just a Guard Mom
I am a Mom of a member of the AMERICAN FORK HIGH SCHOOL COLOR GUARD. I have a camera and like to take pictures, hence have now become a Guard "Photographer". I have no idea what in the heck I am doing, but I am having a good time doing it.

Friends and Family Show Fundraiser - Part 1
The Winter Guard only does one fundraiser each sesaon. It is the Friends and Family Show. The girls sell a ticket to their friends and familly for $5 each, they get a spaghetti dinner and to watch all 5 of the American Fork Winter Guards perform. Some years the Guard has invited some of the other local guard to come perform as well.
We feed about 700 people spaghetti this year. We are able to use the kitchen at the High School. So it makes things go really smooth. Lots of parents come to help, so the food set up, cooking, and cleaning up goes pretty good.
It was the first time we got to see the Wasatch Academy Guard perform. Such a cute group of girls. This is our youngest group. I think they start at about 3rd grade and go up to about 7th grade.
The next group to perform is the American Fork B Winter Guard. They are 7th, 8th, and beginner 9th graders. This was also their first performance.
They have a creative use of the umbrella's in here.
The American Fork A Winter Guard is next. It is made up of 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th graders. I really like this show. This group was moved up a category in the Utah Winter Guard Association this year and at their first competition they got FIRST PLACE. This will be a fun show to watch all season.
Next up is our Out of High School Group - WASATCH INDEPENDANT WINTER GUARD. You can be in this guard until age 26 (I think). These guard members really have to be dedicated, they have to pay their own fees, while attending college, and working. Some of them are married and have kids. I admire them for continuing to do some thing they love.
Their show is titled " You Are Not Alone". They are trying to raise awareness for sucide prevention. (After the show was over we painted SAVE on this floor. Suicide Awareness Voices of Education)

This is never a good thing . . . .
During the Winter Guard warm up routine, Clarissa landed wrong, and whe dislocated her knee. It was very painful and 9 -1 -1 was called.
Clarissa was well attended. The Band Dad's and Mom's were there to help and comfort her until her Mom arrived. She got a ride in an ambulance to the hospital. When we went to the hospital to check on her later, they were just leaving for the night. A big brace on her knee and full of pain meds. She was in good spirits.
Hopefully she will heal quickly and be back performing with us soon.
WE LOVE YOU CLARISSA!

West Lake High School Winter Guard Competition
Today was the day! The first Winter Guard Competition. Things will be a little different for Rachael and her Winter Guard this season. The Utah Winter Guard Association has moved the Guard into a new division this year. They are now in a division called Scholastic Open. WAY TO GO!
Today was a rough day for the guard. Their buses were late picking them up. They started their warm up routine and one of the girls landed wrong and popped her knee out of place. An ambulance was called and she was taken to the hospital. The had a quick re-write of some of the work, so her absence wouldn't be noticed. Then the took the floor and had a GREAT performance. They dedicated the performance to Clarissa, sending their love and prayers to her, hoping that she heals quickly.
